After it was announced that CoConstruct was acquired by Buildertrend in early 2021, there has been uncertainty among home builders and remodelers that rely on these construction management solutions.
Will prices increase? Will lackluster features from Buildertrend now become a part of CoConstruct (or vice versa)?
These concerns, along with ongoing software frustrations may be leading many CoConstruct customers to search for an alternative.
To help guide those who are looking to cancel their CoConstruct account and transition to a new construction management platform, we’ve surfaced the fine print and outlined steps that will save you time, money, and the headache of moving from one platform to the next.
Preparing to cancel your CoConstruct account
Before contacting CoConstruct to cancel your account, there are a few things that you should do first:
- Determine your renewal date
Whether you signed up for a monthly or annual plan, your subscription will automatically renew for an additional contract period on your next renewal date. In most situations, your renewal date is the same day of the month you originally signed up on. For an annual subscription, it will be the same month and day as the previous year.
According to CoConstruct’s Terms of Service, you must submit your request to cancel your subscription at least 10 days before the date of your renewal.
- Export your client and project data
You don’t want to leave all of your client and project data behind, so make sure that you export all of that data before you cancel and lose access to your CoConstruct account.
If you lose access before having a chance to export your data, it’s unclear whether CoConstruct will help you extract the data based on their Terms of Service.
- Move any new or existing projects to your new construction management tool ahead of time
If you have any projects that are underway or set to kick off, it’s best to get them started in the new system to prevent any confusion or delays for your team and clients.
While this might mean that you’ll need to be going between both platforms for a short period of time, it will make the transition smoother and provide you and your team with an opportunity to get familiar with the new platform.
- Notify your team and clients of the upcoming change
In order to keep things in your business moving forward during the transition, you’ll want to consider notifying your team and clients about the upcoming change ahead of time.
Not only does this give them time to prepare, but it also provides you with an opportunity to explain your reason for switching and how the new platform will improve their job and experience.
The steps to cancelling your CoConstruct account
Once you’re done with the steps above and you’re ready to officially cancel your account, here are the steps you need to take:
- Call or email CoConstruct at least 10 days before your subscription renews. According to the CoConstruct website, you can call 434-201-8914 and choose option 4 to speak with someone directly, or you can submit your request in writing by sending an email to [email protected].
Note: While they don’t state it on their cancellation instruction page, it’s clearly stated in their Terms of Service that you must notify them of your cancellation at least 10 days prior to your subscription renewal date. If your request to cancel is received less than 10 days before your renewal date, it appears that your account will renew and your cancellation won’t take effect until the end of that renewal period.
- Confirm that your account has been cancelled. After requesting your cancellation, you should receive a written confirmation that your request has been received and your account is being canceled. If you don’t receive confirmation, reach back out immediately to ask for a record of your cancellation.
- Request for your data to be deleted. This step is optional for anyone that prefers that their data not be retained by CoConstruct. According to their Privacy Policy, you can request that your data is removed by sending an email to [email protected].
