Build With Us

Custom Home Design
We start with an in depth design process, exploring and comparing many different possibilities to meet your needs and goals. From there, we launch into further developing the design concept of your choice, guided by your feedback. With multiple rounds design, photo-realistic walk-throughs, and detailed discussions, we work together to tune your home design uniquely to your tastes. Throughout the process we also offer insights on how design choices will affect energy and material efficiency, cost of construction, the potential for aging in place, rental opportunities, and resale value.
Permitting
Your custom designed home means little until you have permits in-hand. We work closely with our local jurisdictions to permit your dream home. We assist in filling out paperwork, submitting preliminary applications, attending pre-application meetings, and promptly responding for additional inquiries during the permitting process.
Construction Project Management
For a select group of clients, we are now offering construction project management services. For now, we are only offering these services to self-finances home builders ready to finish their construction within a one-year construction window. Our project management services are based on a monthly retainer, not a profit percentage or cost-plus basis.

Our Team

Tom Sommer

Designer / Construction Project Manager

Tom worked through high school as a carpenter with a keen interest in environmentally responsible construction and manufacturing. He graduated from CWU with a BS in business in 2007, youngest in his class. After managing a window manufacturing line for a short time, Tom moved abroad to study Ecology and sustainable production in a new setting. After graduate school, Tom and his wife founded a sustainable development research institute and taught 100s of young adults across southern China about sustainable design and construction while building numerous demonstration sites. In 2016, Tom moved back to Seattle, at the time a hot spot for environmentally responsible building technology. After working with Seattle area contractors and architects for several years, Tom and Lia moved to Ellensburg to start their current practice, designing and building cutting edge custom homes set in the beautiful hills and valleys of Central Washington.

Lia Sommer

Design Support

Lia is currently the building inspector for the City of Ellensburg in Central Washington. She loves her job and continues to grow her knowledge of both residential and commercial construction. Where time allows, she reviews plans, attends client meetings, and conducts site visits with Tom.
